Why do I need to do this?
We believe reputation matters, especially in a persistent world like Verra, where your actions can have lasting consequences. While we can't completely prevent bad acting, we can take reasonable steps to reduce it. To that end, in order to help reduce spam, throwaway accounts & botting, and general negative behavior, all users must have access to the current testing phase of AoC to interact with the site. Users without access can still browse in read-only mode - but actions that can affect others' reputations, like reviews, jobs, stories, etc., are restricted to verified players.
tldr; Verify you have access to the current testing phase of AoC to interact with the site. If you don't have access, you can still browse in read-only mode.
Okay, how do I verify?
Currently, there's no API directly available to us for AoC. However, AoC integrates with Discord and roles in AoC's Discord server are attached to players with various levels of access, like Alpha One, Pre Alpha Two, Alpha Two, etc.
To get started, login to your Ashes of Creation account and go to the 'Account Connections' page here.
Follow the instructions on the page to connect your Discord account. Once you join the AoC Discord server, you may be prompted to agree to the server rules, etc. Once you've done all that, finish connecting your Discord account to your AoC account.
It may take up to 10 minutes (usually immediate), but after a brief period of time you should see roles attached to your user in the AoC Discord server. Once you see roles attached, log out of AoC Link.com and log back in - you should see your access on AoC Link update accordingly.
What's my current verification status?
You must be logged in. When you login, we'll verify you have access to the AoC Discord server and the appropriate roles.
If you have access to AoC's current testing phase, click the 'Sign In with Discord' button in the navbar to login with Discord. When you login, we'll check to see if you're a member of the AoC Discord and have one of the roles that grants access to the current testing phase. If you do, you'll be able to claim a player profile and interact with the site normally.
What if I don't have Discord?
As soon as we have other ways of verifying game access, we'll add them - but for now, checking Discord for valid roles is the only way we can verify access. By requiring access, we're able to ensure that bad actors, spammers, and bots have a harder (more expensive) time. We're sorry for the inconvenience, but we believe it's worth it to keep the site clean and useful for the community. We'll open up new methods of verification as soon as they're available.
